What is the exhaust servo motor?

Most sport bikes have a valve in the exhaust to restrict gas flow under certain conditions.

Why? They are usually partially closed at low revs to reduce noise as much as possible and to comply with emissions regulations. This valve is controlled by a stepper servo motor (and possibly some wires).

Why remove the exhaust servo motor?

Most aftermarket exhaust systems (and some slip-ons) are valveless, so the booster is unnecessary.

Some riders choose to disconnect the control valve so that it is fully open for more power.

The booster is prone to failure and can be quite heavy so removing it will lighten the bike and save space.

ESE-Servomotor weight comparisonESE and typical booster

Why do you need an ESE?

The booster is controlled by the ECU, which will usually detect if it is removed and display a fault light on the dash. In addition, the ECU may apply a reduced power map as a result of the "fault".

The ESE mimics the booster electronics so that the ECU thinks it is still installed.

The device removes the "FI" error warning and ensures that the standard injection map is applied.
